"We'll Take Half World Down With Us": Pak Army Chief Asim Munir's Nuclear Threat In US
In a striking statement, Pakistan's Army Chief Asim Munir has issued a stark warning about the potential for "nuclear war" originating from American soil. Speaking at an event in Tampa, Florida, he made it clear that if Pakistan were to face an existential threat in a future conflict with India, he wouldn't hesitate to take down "half the world." "We are a nuclear nation. If we believe we're going down, we'll take half the world down with us," he reportedly declared. These comments mark the first time nuclear threats have been made from US soil directed at another country. They were made during a dinner hosted by businessman Adnan Asad, who is the honorary consul for Tampa. On the topic of the Indus Waters Treaty, Munir also warned that Pakistan would not hesitate to destroy any infrastructure India constructs on the Indus water channels, which could disrupt water flow to Pakistan. He emphasized that his country has plenty of missiles at its disposal. Munir pointed out that India's decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty following the Pahalgam terror attack in April could endanger 250 million people with the threat of starvation. "We will wait for India to build a dam, and when it does, phir das missile sey faarigh kar dengey [we will destroy it with 10 missiles]... The Indus River is not the Indians' family property. Humein missilon ki kami nahin hai, al-hamdulillah [we have no shortage of missiles, Praise be to God]," Munir was quoted as saying. This marks Munir's second visit to the US in just two months. During his previous trip, he was invited to a White House luncheon with President Trump on June 18, where he even suggested that the President should be nominated for a Nobel Prize for his alleged peace-making efforts—a proposal he reiterated at the Florida event. According to reports, around 120 individuals of Pakistani descent from Florida attended the event, where attendees were prohibited from bringing cellphones or any digital devices. It was also noted that a representative from the Israel Defence Forces was present at the gathering. India-Pakistan Military Conflict During his speech, Munir reportedly spent a significant amount of time discussing Pakistan's recent military conflict with India, questioning why New Delhi chose not to disclose specific details about its losses during the four-day war. "The Indians should acknowledge their losses...Sportsmanship is a virtue," he stated, adding that Islamabad would also reveal its losses, provided India does the same. From his prepared notes, he mentioned, "I had a tweet made with Surah Fil and a picture of (the industrialist) Mukesh Ambani to illustrate what we will do next time." Surah Al-Fil, known as "The Elephant," is the 105th chapter of the Quran, which recounts how Allah sent birds to drop stones on an enemy's battle elephants, turning them into "chewed-up straw." "We'll start from India's East, where their most valuable resources are located, and then move westward," Munir was quoted as saying by ThePrint. Munir, who holds conservative views, is reportedly the first chief of the Pakistan army to have received a seminary education. "Crude Analogy" Amidst his sweeping threats against India, the Pakistan Army Chief inadvertently acknowledged Islamabad's current position in relation to New Delhi. He likened India to a shiny Mercedes, contrasting it with "dump truck" Pakistan. "India is shining, a Mercedes cruising down the highway like a Ferrari, while we are a dump truck filled with gravel. If the truck collides with the car, who do you think will come out on top?" he remarked in what he called a "crude analogy."
