Santa Clara, California / Mahbubnagar, Telangana – September 18, 2025: A 29-year-old man from Mahbubnagar district, Telangana, was allegedly shot dead by police in Santa Clara, California, following an altercation with his roommate, according to his family. The deceased, Mohammed Nizamuddin, had been residing in Santa Clara since 2016 after moving to the United States to pursue his Master's degree. The tragic incident reportedly occurred earlier this week, with the family being informed on Thursday morning (September 18). Nizamuddin’s father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, said he received a call notifying him that his son had been fatally shot by Santa Clara police and that his body was currently at a local hospital in the city. “We are still in shock. I do not know the actual reasons why the police shot him,” said Mr. Hasnuddin in a heartfelt letter addressed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The letter, dated September 18, appeals for a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death. The grieving father has requested urgent assistance from the Indian Embassy in Washington D.C. and the Consulate General in San Francisco to help repatriate his son’s mortal remains to Mahbubnagar.
