Congress MP Shashi Tharoor recently weighed in on party leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks backing US President Donald Trump's claim about India's 'dead economy.' On Saturday, Tharoor acknowledged that Gandhi had his reasons for making such a statement. "I don't want to comment on what my party leader has said. He has his reasons for saying so," Tharoor shared with reporters. When discussing the relationship between India and the US, Tharoor emphasized the significance of Washington as a strategic and economic ally, noting that India exports around USD 90 billion worth of goods to America. "We're exporting about USD 90 billion in goods to the US. We can't afford to lose that or see it diminish significantly... We need to support our negotiators in securing a fair deal for India," he stated. Rahul Gandhi had previously supported Trump's harsh critique of the Indian economy, labeling it a "dead economy" and criticizing the Narendra Modi-led government for its alleged mismanagement. “Yes, he is right; everyone knows this except the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. The Indian economy is indeed a dead economy. I'm glad President Trump has pointed out this fact. The whole world recognizes that the Indian economy is struggling. The BJP has ruined the economy to benefit Adani,” he remarked. Turning his focus to PM Modi, he added, "PM Modi only works for one person: Adani. This (India-US trade) deal will happen, and PM Modi will follow Trump's lead. The main issue facing India today is that the government has devastated our economy, defense, and foreign policy.
