President Vladimir Putin Visit India And Meet PM Modi:
Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi on Thursday for a two-day State visit to attend the 23rd India–Russia Summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is Putin’s first visit to India since Russia began its “special military operation” in Ukraine, making this meeting important for both countries. Before coming, Putin said he hopes to take India–Russia relations “to a new level.” As usual, two things caught everyone’s eye the moment he landed — his specially designed aircraft and his luxury limousine. His aircraft, the Ilyushin IL-96-300PU, often called the “Flying Kremlin,” became one of the most tracked flights online as it travelled to India. A Completely Russian-Made Aircraft Unlike many world leaders who use customised Boeing or Airbus jets, Putin flies in a fully Russian-made plane. His “Flying Kremlin” is based on the Ilyushin IL-96-300, a long-range airliner developed in the 1980s during the Soviet era. It first flew in 1988 and entered service in 1993. The aircraft uses four powerful engines and can fly around 11,000 kilometres without stopping, making it ideal for long international trips. Why It’s Called the “Flying Kremlin” The special presidential version is known as the IL-96-300PU, where “PU” means command post. It was introduced in the early 2000s for VIP travel and for important government operations. The aircraft has advanced and secure communication systems. These include encrypted radio, satellite links, and protected channels that allow Putin to stay in touch with Russia’s military, intelligence agencies, and government even while flying. The President can also give military orders from the aircraft, and it reportedly contains a nuclear command system. Strong Defence and Safety Systems The “Flying Kremlin” is equipped with many defence technologies. These include radar-jamming systems, electronic countermeasures, infrared decoy flares, and anti-missile protection. Some reports say the aircraft can even withstand electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attacks, which can damage electronics. Modern Cockpit The cockpit uses fly-by-wire controls and has six large LCD displays. The aircraft also has improved aerodynamics, including winglets that help it fly more efficiently. Luxurious Interiors Inside, the “Flying Kremlin” looks more like a luxury house than an aircraft. It has a private bedroom for the President, a large meeting room with boardroom seating, a private office, a guest lounge, dining and kitchen areas, and a medical room. Some reports say there is also a small gym on board. The interiors include gold-plated designs, rare wood like Karelian birch, premium leather seats, and elegant décor. The cabin is made to look grand and comfortable. A Symbol of Power In its normal version, the IL-96-300 can carry about 262 passengers. But the presidential version is heavily customised with secure communication systems and luxury interiors. Over the years, it has become a symbol of Russian engineering and a powerful representation of Putin’s leadership. Putin’s arrival in New Delhi once again brought worldwide attention to this unique aircraft, highlighting both its high-tech features and its political importance as he begins a significant visit to India.
