PM Modi has officially inaugurated 184 new flats for MPs in Delhi, showcasing the Type-VII multi-storey housing. Here’s a rundown of what this means and what you should know!

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened 184 brand-new Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament (MPs) at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in Delhi. This initiative is designed to tackle the pressing issue of inadequate housing for MPs, offering them modern, eco-friendly living spaces in a vertical format. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister also planted a Sindoor sapling on the grounds, took the time to chat with the workers who helped build the flats, and spoke to the attendees. The new Type-VII residential complex is crafted to be a self-sufficient facility, boasting modern amenities that cater to both the living and working needs of MPs. The decision to focus on vertical housing stems from the limited land available in the capital, aiming to make the most of the space while keeping long-term maintenance costs manageable. Each flat provides about 5,000 square feet of carpet area, with designated areas for offices, staff accommodations, and living quarters, according to a government release. Interestingly, reports indicate that these new flats are even roomier than the Type-VIII bungalows, which are considered the highest tier of government housing. The Times of India, referencing a source, noted, “These flats have more space than the Type-VIII bungalows, which comprise the top category.” Additionally, the building includes a community center that will act as a hub for both social and official activities for MPs. It incorporates green technology, meets the GRIHA 3-star rating, and adheres to the National Building Code (NBC) 2016. Sustainable features include renewable energy systems, energy-efficient fixtures, and a robust waste management system, all designed to conserve resources and lower operational costs. As per a government press release, the multi-storey structure is constructed using monolithic concrete with aluminum shuttering. All buildings are designed to be earthquake-resistant, following modern structural standards.
