Officials report that police shot an armed man in Brooklyn.

An investigation is currently underway after police shot a man in a bustling Brooklyn neighborhood on Tuesday night. According to the police, a 22-year-old man was shot near 533 Ocean Avenue in Flatbush shortly after 7:30 p.m., following reports of gunfire. The suspect has been taken to Kings County Hospital and is said to be in stable condition. Witnesses told FOX 5 NY that the shots, which rang out in broad daylight, sounded like fireworks. Assistant Chief Francis Giordano of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South shared at a press conference later that evening that when officers approached the suspect, he was engaged in a "shootout" with another person. Officers fired their weapons at one of the two individuals, hitting him "at least once," while the other person managed to escape. "This entire incident is captured on body-worn camera," Giordano noted. A Ruger 9mm was found at the scene, along with "numerous" shell casings. Giordano also mentioned that officers provided life-saving measures on-site, and the suspect was transported to Kings County Hospital, where he is reportedly in stable condition. Additionally, some officers were sent to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
