It was a rough scene': 3 killed in Queens multi-car crash, police say.

A tragic multi-car accident in Astoria on Tuesday morning claimed the lives of three individuals and caused a major traffic disruption near 19th Avenue and 42nd Street, as reported by the police. One eyewitness recounted to FOX 5 NY that one of the cars barreled through a stop sign at over 60 mph, crashing into a food truck. SkyFOX captured aerial footage of the scene, revealing a crumpled white sedan, debris scattered everywhere, and a box truck with its contents spilled out. The NYPD confirmed that the deadly crash occurred around 8:37 a.m. Witnesses described a scene filled with chaos and panic, with one car allegedly racing through a stop sign before colliding with the food truck. "I heard the crash and then people screaming," said George Giakoumas, a nearby business owner who spoke to FOX 5 NY. "It was just a huge mess of cars and people lying in the street." Giakoumas witnessed the speeding car blow through the stop sign just moments before the collision. "He didn’t even slow down at that stop sign," he recalled. "He must’ve been going over 60 or 70 miles an hour… and then, in an instant, you heard the crash." He mentioned that the out-of-control car swerved and hit the food truck, which was serving customers at the time. "It was a tough scene," he added, noting that the car might have struck people waiting in line. Describing the aftermath, Giakoumas said it was a traumatic experience. "Definitely an eye-opener," he remarked. He remembered seeing a man he thought was a mechanic: "You couldn’t even tell what he was wearing after that," he said. "The impact was so severe it ripped his clothes off." A preliminary investigation indicated that an adult man driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla was heading north on 42nd Street when he hit two pedestrians, a 42-year-old man and a 70-year-old man, who were outside the food truck. The Toyota Corolla spun out and crashed into a Volvo after the first impact. The Volvo's driver, a 42-year-old man who was on the same street, was trying to make a U-turn when the collision happened. So far, there haven't been any reported injuries for the Volvo driver. In addition, a box truck was spotted nearby, with items spilling out and littering the road. The NYPD is looking into what led to the crash.
