Israeli Attacks Kill 91 in Gaza as Civilians, Hospitals Targeted Amid Ceasefire Confusion
In yet another day of deadly escalation, Israeli forces killed at least 91 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Saturday, including 45 in Gaza City, as relentless air and ground assaults continued. The intensifying military campaign has drawn sharp criticism from humanitarian organizations, with many labeling the situation a humanitarian catastrophe.{Israeli Attacks Kill 91 in Gaza as Civilians} The Gaza Government Media Office condemned Israel’s ongoing offensives, accusing it of misleading civilians. Officials claim Israel directed Palestinians to evacuate north Gaza for safety — only to continue striking the very areas labeled as “safe zones” in central and southern Gaza. According to the media office, 1,903 people have been killed in 133 Israeli attacks on central and southern Gaza since mass displacement began on August 11. This figure accounts for 46% of all casualties in that time frame, suggesting Israel's attacks are increasingly targeting civilians despite supposed evacuation corridors. Al Jazeera reporter Hani Mahmoud, reporting from central Gaza, said Israeli drones and jets have been “chasing” displaced civilians. In one tragic incident, a family attempting to flee was killed by a drone strike while inside their vehicle. “Hundreds are constantly moving from one place to another, but nowhere is truly safe,” Mahmoud said. Hospitals Under Fire and Overwhelmed Hospitals are collapsing under the pressure. Some major facilities in Gaza City, including the Jordan Field Hospital, were forced to evacuate patients and staff due to heavy bombardment. The Jordan Field Hospital had to move all 107 patients and medical workers under emergency conditions. Dr. Khalil Digran, speaking to Al Jazeera from Al-Aqsa Hospital, claimed Israeli forces deliberately struck the Al-Rantisi Pediatric Hospital — Gaza’s only specialized children’s hospital. “Gaza City now has just two partially functioning hospitals: Al-Shifa and Al-Ahli,” he said. Meanwhile, southern Gaza’s hospitals are severely overcrowded. A displaced Palestinian described scenes where two patients are squeezed into a single hospital bed, while doctors themselves go hungry due to the blockade and lack of aid. "My father has become ill since we were displaced," said Mohammad Khoudary. "He’s dehydrated and in poor health. I just hope we can get him to Al-Aqsa Hospital in time." Global Protests and Confusion Over Ceasefire Talks As the violence escalates, international protests demanding a ceasefire were held in Berlin, Liverpool, and several other cities. Despite public optimism from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed on Friday that “a Gaza deal is close,” no actual ceasefire plan has been presented to Hamas, the group told Al Jazeera. Trump is expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. Netanyahu’s far-right coalition has made it clear that it will not support a ceasefire unless Hamas is completely dismantled — a condition critics say ensures the war will drag on indefinitely. With Gaza’s health infrastructure near total collapse and no viable escape for civilians, the situation grows more dire by the hour.
