Israel Army Kill Palestinians Seven People In Gaza:
According to medical teams, two Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire in the Zeitoun area of northern Gaza City. Five others, including two children aged eight and ten, were killed in Israeli strikes on the al-Mawasi camp in southern Gaza. The bombings caused a fire that spread through several tents, leaving many people severely burned. Gaza’s civil defence spokesman, Mahmoud Basal, confirmed that dozens were injured, with several in critical condition. Hamas strongly condemned the attack on al-Mawasi, calling it a “war crime” and accusing Israel of ignoring the ceasefire. The group urged mediators — Egypt, Qatar, and the US — to pressure Israel to stop its violations. Gaza authorities say Israel has broken the ceasefire at least 591 times since it began on October 10, killing at least 360 Palestinians and injuring over 900. Earlier on Wednesday, the Israeli military said it had received the remains of what might be one of the last two Israeli captives still held in Gaza. The remains were handed over by Palestinian armed groups through the International Committee of the Red Cross. This came after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that partial remains returned the previous day did not match either of the remaining captives. Since the truce started, Hamas has returned 20 living captives and 26 bodies in exchange for around 2,000 Palestinian detainees. These exchanges are part of the first phase of former US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan aimed at ending Israel’s war in Gaza. The plan also requires Israel to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza and reopen the Rafah crossing in both directions. However, Israel announced that the Rafah crossing would open only for people leaving Gaza, raising fears of forced displacement. Israel’s Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) said Palestinians would need “security approval” before being allowed to exit. Many Palestinians worry this could lead to them being permanently prevented from returning. Al Jazeera’s reporter Hani Mahmoud said the move appears less about restoring freedom of movement and more about “accelerating the depopulation of Gaza”. Egypt quickly rejected Israel’s announcement. An Egyptian official said the Rafah crossing would only reopen if movement is allowed both ways, according to the ceasefire agreement. Egypt stressed that it has not coordinated with Israel on any plan for outbound-only movement. Egypt also said it remains committed to UN Security Council Resolution 2803, which supports a ceasefire and calls for opening all Gaza crossings. Former Egyptian diplomat Hussein Haridy said Egypt will hold Israel accountable if it fails to respect the resolution. The United Nations also called for Rafah to reopen completely. UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Gaza residents must be able to leave voluntarily, and those who previously fled must be allowed to return. Meanwhile, Donald Trump said the ceasefire was “going along well” and promised that the second phase of his plan would begin soon. Later phases include creating an international security force, forming a technocratic Palestinian government, and disarming Hamas — a move Hamas rejects unless Israeli occupation ends. Humanitarian needs remain severe. The World Health Organization reports that more than 8,000 patients have been evacuated from Gaza since the war began, but over 16,500 still need urgent care outside the Strip. Doctors Without Borders warned that the demand for medical evacuations is “huge”, and many countries are slow to approve patients. Since October 2023, Israel’s war on Gaza has killed more than 70,000 Palestinians and wounded over 170,000. Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel killed 1,139 people, with about 200 taken captive.
