India and Russia have once again pledged to strengthen their defense cooperation.

The recent development unfolded during a meeting between Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and Russia’s Deputy Defence Minister, Colonel-General Alexander Fomin. On Tuesday, India and Russia reiterated their dedication to enhancing bilateral defense cooperation during this encounter. According to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defence, the Indian envoy met with Col-Gen Fomin, who oversees international defense cooperation. The meeting was described as taking place in a “warm and friendly atmosphere, customary for Russian-Indian ties.” “During their discussion, both sides delved into key issues surrounding their defense collaboration and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening this cooperation, reflecting their particularly privileged strategic partnership,” the statement noted. This meeting occurred against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump's threats to impose severe sanctions on India for its crude oil purchases from Russia.
