The opposition coalition known as the INDIA bloc has taken a stand against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission in light of the ongoing vote theft and Bihar SIR controversy. During a press conference on Monday, leaders from Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK, TMC, and other parties voiced their concerns about the Election Commission and its actions. On Sunday, CEC Gyanesh Kumar held a press conference to address the allegations of vote theft brought up by the opposition. In his remarks, he criticized the opposition, accusing them of spreading misinformation and falsehoods. "When politics is played by targeting the voters of India while putting pressure on the Election Commission, we want to make it clear that the Election Commission stands firm with all voters—regardless of their background, whether poor or rich, elderly or young, men or women—without any bias," Gyanesh Kumar stated. At the conference held at New Delhi's Constitution Club, Gaurav Gogoi accused the Election Commission of being "controlled by officers who are biased." The Congress leader further claimed that the poll body was not investigating any of the allegations made by the opposition. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra also criticized the Election Commission for failing to fulfill its duties. She pointed out that the issue of duplicate EPIC voter cards, raised by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, remains unresolved. Moitra called for accountability for "previous Election Commissioners for fraudulent voter lists" and urged for the "immediate dissolution of the Lok Sabha." As the opposition continues to raise concerns about vote theft, the INDIA bloc is gearing up to propose an impeachment motion against CEC Gyanesh Kumar. They also reiterated their worries about the special intensive revision of the voter list in Bihar. During the Sunday conference, the CEC assured that the Election Commission would ensure the SIR exercise in Bihar is "successful." The opposition is claiming that the SIR exercise is nothing but a conspiracy and is being rushed through. "Why is the ruling party blocking discussions in Parliament about the 'haste' involved in conducting the SIR?" asked DMK's Tiruchi Siva during a press conference, pointing out the numerous adjournments in Parliament during the monsoon session, which were caused by the opposition's uproar over the Bihar SIR. CPM's John Brittas also took aim at Gyanesh Kumar, stating that he has "forfeited his right to remain the CEC." "It seems the CEC has declared war on opposition parties, and the Election Commission has turned into the government's B-team," Brittas added.
