George Russell Wins Singapore Grand Prix as McLaren Clinches Formula One Constructors’ Championship:
In a dramatic night race under the lights of the Marina Bay Street Circuit, George Russell secured a stunning victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, leading from the front to take his second win of the Formula One 2025 season for Mercedes. Russell, who had a clean start and maintained composure throughout, held off fierce competition from Red Bull's Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris to cross the chequered flag first. The British driver admitted he hadn’t expected such a dominant performance. “It feels amazing,” said Russell. “We don’t really know where this performance came from, but I’m really, really happy. I was a bit nervous seeing Max on the soft tyres, but that first stint from us was really strong.” While Russell celebrated his victory, the biggest celebration of the night was happening in the McLaren garage, as the team clinched their second consecutive Formula One Constructors’ Championship. This comes after strong performances from both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who finished third and fourth respectively, earning vital points for the team. Norris had his eyes on second place and pushed Verstappen hard in the final laps, but the reigning world champion defended well to finish just ahead. “It was a tough race,” said Norris. “Max didn’t make any mistakes. I gave it my all and got close. I’m happy with today — moved up two positions and we won the constructors’ again. A great day for the team.” However, not everything was smooth sailing in the McLaren camp. Tensions rose when Norris aggressively overtook teammate Piastri at Turn 1, a move that reportedly left the Australian driver frustrated. Despite this, Piastri’s fourth-place finish kept him ahead in the Drivers’ Championship standings, although his lead over Norris has now been cut to 22 points. Verstappen, who started on soft tyres, admitted that the race was more difficult than expected. “Second was probably the best we could do today,” said Verstappen. “The whole race was tricky — tyre management, pace, and balance were all off compared to what we hoped for.” Mercedes’ rookie Kimi Antonelli delivered a solid performance to finish fifth, continuing his impressive debut season. Charles Leclerc was sixth, narrowly beating Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton, who has yet to find consistent form this year. Veteran Fernando Alonso claimed eighth for Aston Martin, while Haas driver Oliver Bearman took ninth. Carlos Sainz, starting from the back of the grid due to the disqualification of the Williams cars in qualifying, drove a superb recovery race to finish in 10th and grab the final point. With six races remaining in the 2025 Formula One season, the championship fight is still alive. McLaren may have sealed the Constructors’ title early, but the battle for the Drivers' Championship — especially between Piastri, Norris, and Verstappen — is heating up fast. The Singapore Grand Prix delivered action, controversy, and celebration — a night that may well shape the rest of the season.
