Gaza Endures Deadly Strikes as Death Toll Mounts Past 64,000.
Israeli forces carried out a series of deadly airstrikes across Gaza on Friday, killing more than 50 Palestinians, including at least seven children, in what has become one of the most devastating phases of the ongoing conflict. The bombardment focused heavily on Gaza City, where densely populated residential neighborhoods were targeted well into the early hours of Saturday. Entire families have been wiped out as homes were reduced to rubble. Residents described scenes of horror, with medics and volunteers digging through debris with their bare hands, searching for survivors or the remains of their loved ones. The bombardment included the destruction of a high-rise residential tower in the heart of Gaza City, an act Israel’s defense minister described as part of efforts to “open the gates of hell” against Hamas. However, critics argue that it is the civilians—especially children and the elderly—who are paying the heaviest price. Hospitals, already overwhelmed and under-equipped due to the siege, are struggling to cope with the influx of casualties. Ambulance sirens have become a constant sound across the strip, while morgues overflow and families mourn in shattered streets. The war, which began in October 2023 following a surprise attack by Hamas that killed 1,139 people in Israel and saw around 200 others taken hostage, has spiraled into one of the deadliest conflicts in recent history. Since then, at least 64,300 Palestinians have been killed, and over 162,000 have been wounded, according to health officials in Gaza. Thousands more are still trapped beneath collapsed buildings, their fates unknown. The humanitarian situation is dire. Food, clean water, and medical supplies are running dangerously low, with international aid agencies warning of an unfolding catastrophe. “We are witnessing the collapse of humanity,” said one aid worker in Gaza City. “This is no longer just a war. It’s a massacre.” Despite growing international condemnation and calls for an immediate ceasefire, the violence shows no sign of slowing. For many Gazans, survival has become a daily battle, with no safe place to run and no clear end in sight. As the death toll rises and the suffering deepens, voices from around the world are urging an end to the bloodshed. But for the families grieving under the shattered skies of Gaza, peace still feels heartbreakingly out of reach..
